It’s been a while since I’ve discussed this topic. The myth is familiar: Ehud Barak’s made the most “generous offer” at Camp David but Arafat rejected it out of hand and “instigated the violent intifada,” proving there is “no partner” for peace.

This myth has been debunked so many times, as I note here and here. But like the undead in a Hollywood horror flick, this myth refuses to die.

I can’t count the number of letters I’ve seen to the NY Times that repeat this myth everytime there is a critical piece about Israel on the op-ed pages. Pundits claim Labor lost the election because the Israel people reject the Oslo process as a total failure. After all, these analysts say, Barak “proved” the whole process was a farce, and Arafat never had the intention to reach a settlement.

Sadly then, I bring one more article by Amira Hess, to try to drive one more stake through the heart of this dangerous myth.
